Meet safely
Most swaps and sales on netbadel go smoothly. A few simple habits make them safer for everyone.
Choose the place
- Meet in a public place with people around, such as a busy parking lot, a coffee shop or a community centre. Many police stations also have a marked spot for exchanges: ask your local station.
- Meet in daylight when you can.
- Do not invite a stranger into your home for a small item. For large items such as furniture, have a second person with you.
- Tell a friend or family member where you are going, who you are meeting and when you expect to be back.
Check before you pay
- Look at the item properly and try it out before you hand over money. Ask to see it working.
- Pay in person, on pickup. Cash or e-transfer once you are happy with the item.
- Never send money in advance, and never pay with gift cards, wire transfers or by sharing codes.
- If the price or the story changes at the last minute, walk away.
Protect your details
- Share only what you need: a first name and a way to reach you. You do not need to give your home address until you are sure.
- Keep messages on netbadel and by email until you are comfortable. Do not click links from someone you have just met online.
Trust your instincts
- If something feels wrong, leave. No item is worth an uncomfortable meeting.
- In an emergency call 911.
